Monitoring plant health: the Plant Health Epidemiological Monitoring Platform (ESV)
The Plateforme nationale d’Épidémiosurveillance en Santé Végétale (ESV Platform) provides support for public plant health policies and for those involved in epidemiosurveillance. It offers methodological and operational support for a better understanding of the emergence and development of plant diseases and for the deployment of health monitoring systems. By centralising the data it collects and using the tools it develops, it helps detect diseases, inform the general public, exchange information with plant sector professionals and enable the various parties involved to take the necessary decisions on an informed basis.
A multi-partner platform
The ESV Platform is implemented by the French Food Directorate (DGAl), INRAE and the French National Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health Safety (Anses), in partnership with ACTA (Association de Coordination Technique Agricole), Chambre d’Agriculture France, FREDON France (which brings together regional pest control federations) and CIRAD.
The ESV platform is part of a group of 3 platforms alongside the animal health (ESA) and food chain safety (SCA) epidemiosurveillance platforms.
A key player in international surveillance and plant health improvement
INRAE brings to the platform its expertise in the fields of epidemiology, ecology, plant pathology, population biology, microbiology, data processing and statistical analysis, modelling and information systems, as well as its ability to bring all these fields together through its culture of interdisciplinarity. It facilitates the transfer of skills and technologies, fostering dialogue between fields and strengthening collaboration between platform members.
Data collected and used in a concerted manner
Official surveillance of regulated and emerging organisms, the Forest Health Department network and the epidemiological surveillance network all result in the systematic collection of data that enables us to assess the health of the region and detect diseases early. Using this wide range of data, and data available elsewhere, the platform explores and develops specific methods adapted to the different situations and problems encountered.
