Best practice guide to using digestate from methanation plants

The anaerobic digestion sector, which is developing rapidly in France, produces renewable energy (biogas) and an organic fertiliser (digestate) that help reduce the carbon footprint and inputs of fossil origin, and meet the challenges of agroecological and climate change. A major challenge in the agricultural recycling of digestate is to understand its agronomic qualities and its effects on agro-ecosystems. The Ferti-Dig project aims to meet this challenge by producing a guide to fertilising with digestates of agricultural origin. It will provide specific use sheets for each type of digestate to maximise the agronomic benefits while limiting the impact on soils. It will improve knowledge of the return of digestates to the soil according to their agronomic and health values.
