Sophie Génermont – Research Officer, Fertilisation and air quality
May 2021
Sophie Génermont is conducting research at UMR ECOSYS on the volatilisation of ammonia from field crops. This greenhouse gas causes dry nitrogen losses for farmers and is a source of very fine particles that are harmful to health. The researcher has developed a Volt’air calculation model which, when coupled with a land registry tool, can be used to predict and reduce these emissions. These innovative tools, which take account of the spatial and temporal dimensions of emissions and are unique in Europe and the world, are used by public partners to anticipate and adjust public policies on air quality and emissions regulation. 30 years of research have given the team nationally and internationally recognised expertise.
