Muriel Mercier-Bonin – Biologist research director

March 2021

Muriel Mercier-Bonin is working on the issue of the persistence of nano- and micro-plastics in the environment and human exposure to these plastics through food. Understanding the impact of these plastics on the intestinal barrier and assessing the risk of these aggressors to human health is all the more important in the context of developing the circular economy, in particular plastic recycling – a policy reinforced by Europe in 2018.
Alongside her research, Muriel Mercier-Bonin is enriching the scientific process through an innovative collective intelligence approach that brings together scientists, politicians, industrialists and citizens in a multi-disciplinary European consortium. By bringing together the various stakeholders in a shared commitment, the consortium should be able to feed into the research process and come up with new and innovative solutions.
